Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are to replace one or more missing teeth in the mouth. There are many options for various materials that can be used when designing and manufacturing partial dentures.  Some of these will be discussed below.  Partial dentures are an alternative to the option of having costly surgery to replace one or more missing teeth in the mouth.  Although, partial dentures can also be designed to incorporate the use of implants to help maximise retention in the mouth.

Acrylic base partial dentures

These are fully acrylic dentures. The part that joins the denture teeth together are fully made from acrylic material.  

Chrome Cobalt (CrCo)

This is acrylic teeth with acrylic gum material over the top of a chrome cobalt base.

  • Some advantages of CrCo 
    • Antibacterial properties – Bacteria is less likely to adhere to the metal surface
    • More durable design 
    • Less bulk material overall 
    • The material is much thinner than the counterpart acrylic design. 
    • Thermal Conductivity
      • The material is more thermal conductive then acrylic this is very important to some people as it impacts the eating experience.
